Paulo Duarte

PhD Researcher

PhD and Masters in Political Sciences, awarded by the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.

Expert in the China Belt and Road Initiative, on China, World Politics, and specifically on Central Asia, where he carried out PhD research in the field (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan) with a scholarship granted by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

Author of Metamorphoses in Power: towards the hegemony of the dragon? with preface and introduction by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, current President of Portugal.

He was a guest researcher (January-December 2016) at National Chengchi University (Graduate Institute of East Asian Studies) in Taiwan, under the Taiwan Fellowship Programme, which brings together researchers from various parts of the world.

Also, member of the China Observatory in Portugal, former editor-in-chief of ELA Magazine (IAPSS publication) and former columnist of the Brazilian ‘Revista Sociedade Militar’.

Member of the Friends of the New Silk Road Foundation, Portugal.

Member of the Portugal-China Enduring Friendship League.

He was a scholar of the Ministry of the People’s Republic of China, in Beijing.
