JANUS NET – Vol. 15, N.º 2, TD1, (2024), Thematic dossier – Brazil-China relations: The rise of modern International Order

As a result of an institutional collaboration between the University of Macau (China), Autonoma University of Lisbon (Portugal), the Centro Universitário do Sul de Minas – UNIS-MG (Brazil), the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), and the Institute of African Studies – Zhejiang Normal University (China), we are excited to announce the latest peer-reviewed special edition of our journal, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Brazil-China diplomatic relations (1974-2024). This special issue delves into the multifaceted partnership between these two nations, highlighting their long-standing comprehensive collaboration as members of the G20, Forum Macau, and BRICS+. As both countries navigate the complexities of the international landscape, particularly as leading members of the global south, this edition provides academic analyses and insights from both leading and emerging scholars on how Brazil and China have leveraged their cooperation in bilateral and multilateral dimensions to advance their mutual interests and contribute to global economic stability. This edition also explores the dynamic trade relationship between Brazil and China, emphasizing their status as each other’s largest bilateral trade partners. It covers a wide range of topics including economics, partnerships, multilateralism, political relations, gender, health, technology, international security, foreign policy, the Lusophone world, climate change, and energy – all of which we believe are part of the international as an everyday practice. Through comprehensive research articles, readers will gain a deeper understanding of the economic, political, and cultural exchanges that have shaped this robust partnership. We invite academics, policymakers, and anyone interested in international relations to explore this rich compilation of knowledge, celebrating five decades of Brazil-China cooperation and looking ahead to future opportunities for collaboration.
