This research group follows on from and brings together expertise from previous Research Groups and Lines - "Dynamics and Interactions in Greater Eurasia" and "Studies of Peace and War" – with a view to deepening knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective on current international security realities, new strategic data and imperatives for promoting peace, taking into account the latest approaches and developments at global, local or regional level – with emphasis on the European, Atlantic, Mediterranean and African areas, – as well as contributing to the spread of a culture of conflict resolution by peaceful means.
The vast majority of projects and activities are developed with partner institutions, both Portuguese and foreign.

This research group is based on the close articulation between economic issues and the analysis of international realities.
Seeking to deepen interdisciplinary knowledge, its main objectives are the study of the process of internationalisation of economies, their interdependence and their various impacts and challenges, with emphasis, naturally, on those dimensions of the Portuguese and European economies; as well as the study of the political and economic importance of some strategic resources on the international scene.
We intend to produce and share innovative and relevant scientific research, in the areas of Geoeconomics and Resources, within the scope of the different economic, social and environmental challenges.
The vast majority of projects and activities are developed with partner institutions, both Portuguese and foreign.

The Research Group designated PEOPLES AND STATES: BUILDING AND INTERACTIONS 's intends to contribute for the understanding of the international actors’ role, seen in its dynamic and evolutionary dimension, in its genesis and its multifaceted relationship.
By including the term PEOPLE we intend to focus on cultural identities underlying the political processes involved; by including the word STATES, we refer to the understanding the genesis of the states up to their contemporary settings, while this analysis is relevant to their role as actors in the international system, but without forgetting the existence and role of non-State actors, as are the cities, regions, dispersed communities, etc.
Hence also the expression BUILDINGS, trying to recover the history of the ways in which the political organization that we call state was formed, within a wider framework of relational INTERACTIONS, particularly in the traditional form of diplomacy, notwithstanding to pursue some research projects on issues of sovereignty and legitimacy, as well as on federalism in the European framework and the relations established within the CPLP.
The vast majority of projects and activities are developed with partners, Portuguese and foreign institutions.
