The Research Group designated PEOPLES AND STATES: BUILDING AND INTERACTIONS ‘s intends to contribute for the understanding of the international actors’ role, seen in its dynamic and evolutionary dimension, in its genesis and its multifaceted relationship.
By including the term PEOPLE we intend to focus on cultural identities underlying the political processes involved; by including the word STATES, we refer to the understanding the genesis of the states up to their contemporary settings, while this analysis is relevant to their role as actors in the international system, but without forgetting the existence and role of non-State actors, as are the cities, regions, dispersed communities, etc.
Hence also the expression BUILDINGS, trying to recover the history of the ways in which the political organization that we call state was formed, within a wider framework of relational INTERACTIONS, particularly in the traditional form of diplomacy, notwithstanding to pursue some research projects on issues of sovereignty and legitimacy, as well as on federalism in the European framework and the relations established within the CPLP.
The vast majority of projects and activities are developed with partners, Portuguese and foreign institutions.
