Announced in September 2021, AUKUS – the trilateral enhanced security partnership that brings together the United States, Britain and Australia – provides for defence cooperation in various fields. The new alliance aims to strengthen the allies’ naval apparatus at a time when China has come to be perceived as a “systemic threat” that calls into question the regional balance of power. With interventions by Luís Tomé, Diana Soller, Patrícia Daehnhardt and Vasco Rato, this IDN workshop aims to equate the meaning of the new alliance and explore its consequences for the Indo-Pacific order.
