Ukraine’s anti-corruption fight: real change or pandering to its partners? – Filipe Vasconcelos Romão – France 24

Ukraine’s president, Volodymir Zelensky, has the fight against corruption in his sights as he wages war with Russia. During the conflict, allegations have been made against the Ministry of Defence and some high-ranking military officers. One of the most notorious consequences was the dismissal of Minister Oleksii Reznikov and all regional military recruitment chiefs, who have been implicated in alleged corruption. With these measures, the government continues to try to join the European Union, which has put several conditions on the table, including curbing corruption. Are these substantive changes or are they just announcements to please the West? We take a closer look in El Debate.
