This paper aims to analyse the work that the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (TCA), later converted at the beginning of the 21st century into the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) with permanent secretariat in Brasilia, has conducted in favour of the debate on the sustainability of the Amazon. Although the work of this organization has usually been studied under a realist approach, focusing mainly on the action of its Member States, it is argued that the Complex Interdependence, a theory developed by Nye and Keohane, can expand the knowledge of the work of the Treaty in favour of the debate on the sustainability of the Amazon region

She holds a Master Degree in Security and Intelligence Studies from Brunel University, London, and a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Minho, Portugal.
Resumo
Buscamos analizar en el presente artículo la labor que el Tratado de Cooperación Amazónica (TCA), convertido a inicios del siglo XXI en Organización del Tratado de Cooperación Amazónica (OTCA) con secretaría permanente en Brasilia, ha desarrollado para el debate sobre la sostenibilidad de la selva amazónica. Aunque habitualmente el trabajo de esta organización ha sido estudiado bajo un enfoque realista, esto es, centrado sobre todo en la acción de sus Estados-miembros, consideramos que la Interdependencia Compleja, teoría desarrollada por Nye y Keohane, puede ampliar el conocimiento de la acción del Tratado en pro del debate sobre la sostenibilidad de la Amazonía, a nivel regional.
