On 3 December this year, Daniel Antonio de Aquino Neto, a PhD student in International Relations, was honoured by the Portuguese Academy of History – Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Braga Award, Dr. João Lobo, for his work ‘O lusitano e o outro na Amazônia do século XVIII’ (The Lusitanian and the Other in the Amazon in the 18th Century), in which he studies the colonial legislation applied to the indigenous peoples of the region during the Pombaline period, relating it to the historical formation of the Portuguese Empire. This is the first time that the APH has awarded a foreign author in the field of Legal History. Daniel Aquino holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in Law and is a professor at the University of the State of Amazonas in Brazil. He is also an official and registrar in Brazil. The work is now available in the library of the Autonomous University of Lisbon.
