Auditorium 1The Portuguese language is a determining factor in Portugal’s construction in the world, asserting itself as a plural entity among the various countries that adopt it as their official language. In this open class, we will analyse the ten potential centres for generating official Portuguese language standards, nine countries and one autonomous region with very different sociolinguistic characteristics, from Portugal and Brazil, with consolidated standards, to Macau and Equatorial Guinea. We will base our analysis on the twelve criteria for evaluating pluricentric languages, generally languages of European origin that have spread throughout the world since Vasco da Gama’s arrival on the Indian subcontinent in 1498.Register HERE
