The objectives of the international conference were to bring together various Migration experts from different scientific fields (economics, sociology, political science, law), to analyze the contribution of international migration to sustainable development, to reflect on European immigration policy and its impact on his regulation and critically review the guiding principles and objectives of the Global Compact, with a particular focus on their contribution to the implementation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
It was also intended to contribute to the dissemination in Portugal of this United Nations initiative, which is more than ever an opportunity for the development of migration policies based on respect for human rights and the recognition that secure and regulated international migration should be something that should unify the whole international community and not a factor of dissention and division. It was also our intent, with the publication of these interventions, to contribute to this discussion, which we would like to be both global and enlightened.

CYCLE OF SEMINARS: EURO-MEDITERRANEAN AREA - SECURITY AND CONFLICT
Instability and conflict in North Africa and the Middle East call into question multiple premises on which Europe (and the world's) peace, security and stability are based. In this context, there is a set of phenomena that are progressively changing our social and political dynamics, such as human mobility and migration. With this, the Euro-Mediterranean Area has become a cemetery and a crossing point explored by organized crime. The second seminar of the Cycle “Euro-Mediterranean Area – Security and Conflict” analyses this issue.
Theme: "Organized Crime, Migration and Mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean Area"
Lecturers: Mr. João Paulo Ventura (Judiciary Police – National Counter-Terrorism Unit)
and Prof. Miguel Santos Neves (OBSERVARE – UAL)
Moderator: Prof. Luís Moita (Director of the Department of International Relations of UAL)
Place: Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa – Auditorium 3
Date: March 1, 2017 - 6:30 p.m.

CYCLE OF SEMINARS: EURO-MEDITERRANEAN REGION – SECURITY AND CONFLICT
The idea of a Euro-Mediterranean area as a region is still conceptually debatable, notwithstanding its extreme geopolitical and geo-strategic importance. This recognition has long assumed forms of cooperation and dependencies. However, two decades after the Barcelona Declaration, the contexts have changed and increased the strategic vulnerability of this area. The volatility on the southern flank of this area may call into question certain premises on which regional peace and stability are based. Therefore, it is imperative to analyze the causes and consequences of these ongoing changes.

Lecturers: Bruno Cardoso Reis, Ph.D. (National Defence Institute) and
Francesco Vacchiano, Ph.D. (Institute of Social Sciences – University of Lisbon)
