Sofia José Santos Sofia José Santos is Researcher at OBSERVARE, Autonomous University of Lisbon, and Associate Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), University of Coimbra. Previously, she was post-doc researcher at CES and researcher and coordinator for media and communications at Promundo-Europe. She holds a PhD and a MA in "International Politics and Conflict Resolution", School of Economics, University of Coimbra, a BsC in International Relations from the same faculty, and a specialization in Journalism from the Centre for Journalist Professional Training (CENJOR), Lisbon. She was junior researcher at CES from 2008 to 2015, where she also co-coordinated and co-edited the P@x Online bulletin, from 2008 to 2014. She was journalist and editor of Rede Angola, in 2013, main officer at the International Office of Coimbra College of Education (2005-2007), and intern at the UN Information Centre, in Lisbon (2003). Her current research interests include: media, peace and violences; peace media, peacebuilding and the liberal peace; cities and paradiplomacy; media and contestation politics;big data, privacy and internet governance; masculinities and violence prevention. In February 2009, she completed a six month research/mobility period at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, supervised by Professor Ton Robben. She was also a visiting scholar at the Flemish Peace Institute in 2010, supervised by Dr. Tomas Baum.

É doutorada e mestre em Política Internacional e Resolução de Conflitos pela Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra. Anteriormente, foi investigadora em pós-doutoramento no CES (2015) e investigadora e coordenadora de media e comunicação no Promundo-Europa (2014-2015). Foi jornalista e editora do Portal Rede Angola, em 2013. Pertenceu à equipa de investigação do Flemish Peace Institute (Bélgica), enquanto visiting scholar, em 2010, supervisionada pelo Dr. Tomas Baum, e foi vsiting fellow na Universiteit Utrecht (Holanda) supervisionada pelo Professor Ton Robben, de Setembro 2008 a Fevereiro 2009. Foi investigadora junior no Centro de Estudos Sociais, de 2008 a 2015, onde co-coordenou e co-editou o Boletim P@x, publicação periódica do Grupo de Estudos para a Paz do NHUMEP, de 2008 a 2014.
Especializou-se em Jornalismo pelo Centro Protocolar de Formação para Jornalistas (CENJOR) e é licenciada em Relações Internacionais pela Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra.
Foi ainda estagiária no Centro de Informação das Nações Unidas em Portugal (2003) e Técnica Superior no Gabinete de Relações Internacionais da Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra (2005-2007).

JOSÉ MANUEL LOUZADA LOPES SUBTIL
He has a Bachelor Degree in History from the Faculty of Humanities of Universidade de Lisboa University of Lisbon, a Master Degree in History of the 19th and 20th centuries from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and a Ph.D. in Modern Institutional and Political History from the same university. He is also an Aggregate member of the History Group, in the subject Modern Institutional and Political History at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He was Coordinating Professor with Aggregation at Instituto Politécnico de Viana do Castelo, where he was part of the General Council as an elected member. He is currently Full Professor at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa where he was elected President of the Scientific Council (2010 to 2016) and a member of the panel of scholarship evaluators (History and Archaeology) of the Foundation for Science and Technology. He has held a number of public positions, and particularly in the last ten years, he has been Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance (1997-2000), in Sousa Franco’s Ministry, and responsible for setting up the Central Library and the Contemporary Archive of the Ministry of Finance. He was a member of the Reform and Rehabilitation Committee of Torre do Tombo National Archives, Director of Services of the Portuguese Institute of Archives (1990-1992), of the Commissions for the Promotion of the Coins and Medals Museum, of the Regulation of Common Structures of Tax Organizations, and of the Institute for Fiscal Training (1999-2001), created by resolution of the Council of Ministers. He was National Coordinator of the Accreditation Committee and member of the Board of the National Institute for Accreditation of Teacher Training in the Ministry of Marçal Grilo.

He was the scientific coordinator of the DVD edition of the Dicionário Jornalístico Português by Xavier da Silva Pereira, Academia das Ciências and Grupo Impresa, 2009. He has supervised dozens of master degree dissertations and doctoral theses and has been part of about a hundred public viva voce exam panels. He has been involved in several research projects, especially through collaboration with ICS, ISCTE, IPA, IPVC, CEDIS, and OBSERVARE. He has about eighty articles published in journals, at home and abroad, and has given around one hundred presentations at colloquia, meetings and seminars. He was awarded the Academic Merit Prize of the Fernão de Magalhães Foundation in 1996 and 1997 and received four public praises.

In the International Relations degree she teaches "Contemporary World", "Environment and International Relations" and "International Cooperation", and also collaborates in "Transnational Social Dynamics" and “Methodology Seminary” (Master in International Relations), “Seminar on Methods of Scientific Research” (Master in Studies of peace and war) and "Research Seminar" (PhD in International Relations: Geopolitics and Geoeconomics).
Since 2010, she is a member of the editorial board of JANUS.net, e-journal of International Relations, as deputy director, as well as OBSERVARE, Observatory of Foreign Affairs, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, coordinating the research line "Economic Spaces and Resource Management".
She is Member of the Scientific Council of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa.
She collaborated with other institutions of higher education, especially the Universidade da Beira Interior (2017), Universidade de Évora (2011) and Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra (2005).
Prof. Brigida Rocha Brito collaborates with NGOs as external consultant in the areas of previous diagnosis, mid-term and final evaluations of development cooperation projects funded by the European Union (Instituto Marquês de Valle Flôr, Associação Portuguesa de Educação Ambiental, Mar, Ambiente e Pesca Artesanal, Acção para o Desenvolvimento, Artissal) in Portugal, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Sao Tome and Principe, in international actions for socio-environmental intervention (environmental education, food safety, access to drinking water and tourism).
At the same time, she collaborated in development cooperation activities with international organizations and in bilateral cooperation programs, such as: a) the International Labor Organization (ILO / ILO, STEP-Portugal Program, IT Learning Center and of Resources for Social Inclusion, CIARIS), as content specialist in distance learning courses for Mozambique and Cape Verde; b) partnership between the World Bank Group and the Ministry of Finance of Sao Tome and Principe, Program for Social Sectors Support; c) International Organization for Migration, Portugal's mission, in the projects "Awareness Raising and Information Strategy for People In Need of International Protection"; "Program of Return and Reintegration of Qualified African Nationals 1995-99"; "Migration and Economy: Towards an Optimization of the Economic Value of Migrant Women in the Member States of the European Union"; d) training of social workers, cooperation between the Cooperation Department of Portuguese Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Public Administration of Sao Tome and Principe.
She participated in numerous national and international scientific meetings, as well as in the organization of thematic scientific events. She published articles, texts in proceedings of scientific events, books and chapters.
She was researcher at Center for African Studies (1999-2011), co-coordinating the research line on International Development and Cooperation and coordinating international and interdisciplinary research team in a project funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).
