Mattia G. Barbera

Mattia is an experienced economist with a global career in International Organizations, Government Agencies, Academic Institutions and the private sector. His mains skills are related to socio-economic and environmental research, international relations, sustainable development, private sector development, public policy, investments and project management (design, monitoring and evaluation), education, international trade and business analysis.

Mattia holds a Laurea in Business and Economics at Bocconi University, Milan-Italy, specialization in International Economics and a final dissertation on Italian multinational corporations in Argentina and new forms of international investment. Master’s Degree in Environment and Human Settlements at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Santiago-Chile with a final dissertation on the Environmental Impacts of the trade specialization of Latin America and the Caribbean. Among other several courses, he completed an Advanced Course on Development Planning and Management, Development Studies and International Relations and Organization, organized by the Italian Society for International Organization and sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mattia started his international career in 1988 at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL/ECLAC) where he performed research activities and published several works. Later he was appointed Economic Research Coordinator at the Institute for European-Latin American Relations (IRELA), Madrid-Spain, a think tank funded by the European Parliament and the European Commission to inform and implement their policies in Latin America. This was followed by a brief lecturing experience in La Paz Bolivia, before starting an almost fifteen years’ service as economist, expert in development cooperation, at the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs with a broad spectrum of tasks that included representing the Ministry in some working groups at the OECD and the European Union. In 2008, Mattia moved to Auckland-New Zealand where he worked for the government as Senior Economist and Researcher at Auckland Council, having the possibility to lead several research projects and publish numerous reports. He then became Research Associate at the Institute of Public Policy of the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) where he collaborated in research activities and publications also at an international level and lectured for graduate and post-graduate courses.

LUÍS MOITA

 

Luís Moita was born on 11 August 1939.

 

He has a PhD in Ethics (1967) from the Pontificia Università Lateranense (Pontifical Lateran University), Italy, awarded with the classification summa cum laude (10/10) and accredited by Universidade Católica Portuguesa (Catholic University of Portugal).

 

He is currently Full Professor in "Theories of International Relations", Director of the Department of International Relations, and member of the scientific council of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (UAL).

 

Between 1992 and 2009 he was Deputy ViceChancellor of UAL. He was the coordinator of the Socrates Institute for Ongoing Education at UAL and he presently directs the Research Unit OBSERVARE (Observatory for External Relations), which publishes a collection of books and two regular publications: the yearbook JANUS (published since 1997 in a co-edition with newspaper PÚBLICO) and the biannual journal JANUS.NET, e-journal of International Relations, published since Fall 2010.

He was Director of CIDAC, a Portuguese non-governmental organisation for development cooperation for fifteen years between 1974 and 1989. Between 1989 and 1997, he lectured the subject “Philosophy and Ethics of Social Work” at Instituto Superior de Serviço Social de Lisboa (Higher Institute for Social Work of Lisbon).

 

He also was a Guest Associate Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (until October 1998).

 

He currently coordinates the Master Degree in War and Peace Studies at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa and lectures the subject “Globalisation and Africa’s International Relations”, as part of the Master and Doctoral Degree in African Studies taught at the Higher Institute for Labour and Management Studies (ISCTE).

He has been a regular speaker at the National Defence course offered by the National Defence Institute since 1998. In the academic years 2004-2007 he taught at the Air Force Higher Studies Institute, and, since 2006, he has been a lecturer at the Institute for Higher Military Studies.

On 10 June 1998 he was distinguished with Grand Cross of the Order of Liberty by the President of the Republic, and on 7 January 2005 he was awarded the title Grand Officer of the Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana by Italy’s President of the Republic.

Daniel Marcelino Rodrigues

 

PhD in International Relations – International Politics and Conflict Resolution by the School of Economics of the University of Coimbra, with the thesis “Federalism as an instrument of conflict prevention/management: The cases of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the French Republic”, in 2013. Postgraduate diploma in International Politics and Conflict Resolution by the same institution (2007) and BA in History and History – Educational Formation (both pre-Bologna) by the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra, in 2005 and 2006 respectively.

Integrated Researcher of the OBSERVARE – Observatory of Foreign Relations since August 2013. Visiting Researcher at the “Centro de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales”, in Madrid, from October 2010 and March 2011 as part of the European Doctorate Enhancement in Peace and Conflict Studies. PhD fellow from the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia.

He presented several papers at international conferences on subjects as diverse as ethnic nationalism, federalism, regionalism, the European Union, France, the Western Balkans, the Baltic States, Poland-Lithuania, collective memory and cinema among others; and he has published some articles and book chapters on these same topics, as well as several book reviews in academic journals.

José Brás dos Santos

 

Academic Qualifications: PhD in Business Management and European Doctor, University of Seville, Spain (2009). Diploma of Advanced Studies in Business and Marketing Management, University of Seville (2005). Graduated in Organization and Business Management, Modern University, Portugal (2001).

Giuseppe Ammendola

 

In his teaching, writing, public speaking, and consulting Dr. Giuseppe Ammendola integrates knowledge from multiple disciplines, cultures, and languages. He holds a Doctorate in Economics and Business, summa cum laude, from the University of Naples and a Ph.D. in Political Science with a specialization in International Political Economy from the Graduate School of the City University of New York. He came to the United States as a Fulbright scholar.

 

Professor Ammendola teaches at New York University at the graduate level and has taught at the City University of New York, where he also worked at several research institutes. He has been a visiting professor and has lectured at several Italian graduate schools and doctoral institutions. For over thirty years, he has been teaching courses in international political economy, international business, international management, international finance, international trade and investment, international marketing, international relations, American government, US foreign policy, and the European Union.

 

Dr. Ammendola consults on strategic management, marketing, and business plan evaluation and writing.His writings include the book From Creditor to Debtor: The U.S. Pursuit of Foreign Capital - The Case of the Repeal of the Withholding Tax, published in the "Foreign Economic Policy of the United States - Outstanding Studies" Series (New York: Garland 1994) as well as the internationally recognized country study "The Government of Italy" in Michael Curtis, ed., Western European Government and Politics (NewYork: Addison Wesley Longman, 1st edition 1997 and 2nd edition 2003). He is the editor and main author of the book The European Union: Multidisciplinary Views (Stony Brook, NY: Forum Italicum, 2008). Autumn 2011 Dr. Ammendola selects and examines key analytical frameworks for the study of the global economy.

 

Professor Ammendola has briefed public and private decision-makers from all over the world on global issues, on the political, economic, and business realities of the United States and Europe, and on country analysis. Dr. Ammendola has been speaker, organizer and/or panelist in hundreds of lectures, roundtables, and TV programs in the US and abroad. As a guest commentator on Bloomberg TV, Dr. Ammendola's analyses in several languages on the US economy and capital markets have reached millions worldwide.

 

He is the Joseph Schumpeter Visiting Professor of International Economics at the Universidade Autonoma of Lisbon, where he is also a Member of the Scientific Council of the OBSERVARE Research Center.
